Transient response and depending on who you ask some say better spool. Longevity (even though the JB would be rebuildable for fairly reasonable money).

i wouldnt even consider the journal bearing version. ball bearing hands down, especially on that big of a turbo.

i'd stick with ball bearing for anything from this point forward just for the durability, especially when its pushed for long periods of time

preference, and reliability. If you are trying to make any type of decent power on a garret or precision turbo, then you need to upgrade to the ball bearing.

Precision and garret tend to make their bearings out of swiss cheese Complete and utter garbage when pushed hard....

Now a holset thrust bearing I would put to the test against ball bearing catridges any day of the week and twice on sunday's.

Yea, Holsets on the diesels spool like crazy.. 30+ psi. When I upgrade turbos, its going to be a budget Holset setup.

Reliability and better transient response vs cost and re-buildability (is that a word? LOL).
