Evo 9 mr 6 speed tranny

How much can evo 9 six speed transsmission handle power, like what is a safe power range where it will not blow up? I am going on e85 around 420whp and like 390-400 wtq.... would that be safe??

Depends on what you plan on doing with the car. If its a daily driver that spends most of its time on the highway than its not a problem. But if you plan on road racing, auto-X, or drag racing where the car is under full load for extended periods then the 6 speed probably won't last long. The problem is not just that the gears are thinner, but also less room for transmission fluid which overheats when the car is driven hard for extended periods.

At that power it's more of a when thing than if. They are weak and putting a 5 speed in is a good way to keep transmission troubles away from you. I buried my 6 speed last summer and haven't looked back.

haha yeah thats what i was thinking but i drive it like 4 times a week no auto cross or drag racing... I might do a few pulls with ppl that are trying to race me but nothing like HARDCORE racing. I guess I might be okay with my 6 speed then.. how much did you pay to install a 5 speed?

Shep sells a 6-5 conversion kit that includes everything but the tranny itself I went that route I think the kit was around 5-600? Don't quote me on that lol. But I wouldn't build a 6 speed it basically makes it almost as strong as a stock 5 speed. I didn't realize how much I hated the 6 until I ridded myself of it. Sure parkway 6th gear is cool but overall 5 is where it's at.

definately prefer 6 speed for top end, and lower cruising rpm.

If you just plan to DD the car and not race then it's fine but if u plan on having 420whp then I would be careful. That's right there on the border line of where people start having issues. Extra gear is nice but pulling that sob out is not fun lol
