Ok so I'm getting my evo IX tuned in a few weeks and I want my tuner to push it to about 34-35psi. I was wondering if anyone else is running that much boost on the stock block. If you are i'd like to know how long you've been on that much boost and if youve had any issues on that much boost and if its really worth the extra 4-5psi.

 

Your tuner will decide where a proper boost level should be. Sure you can run that much boost if you pull enough timing out of it then you watch your egt's spike up and melt ****.

I would guess at that boost level on your 50trim your gonna be way past a safe tq hit for a stock bottom end. I don't know the particulars on that turbo but you may just be blowing hot air at that point.

 

People get too hung up on boost levels. If you have an experenced tuner he will lead you down the right path.

 

I'm on a FB Black now. I know its not ideal or best for my motor to run that much boost but its only going to be on that setting when I take it to the 1/4 mile. I just want to break into the 10s

What fuel? Running the boost isnt the issue, we have done it on E85 a bunch, its octane, tuner, and where the turbo really starts to die off. Stock turbo on E85 and a stock motor 32-34 isnt too uncommon. E85 or Pump/meth we have run 35psi on larger turbos as well.

Might or might not but wouldnt say it is reliable and its bound to have issues.

Thats good let him guide you with his expierence sure things will be fine, but motor build is always nice down the road.

 

From reading around... If you are still on stock head studs, I would not go that high. Most blown heads with stock short block threads I have found related partially at least to the stock head studs giving at around 35 psi. I am sure there are exceptions either way.

That said I have stock head studs and have run btwn 32-28 psi for years. I have touched over 40psi twice but immediately let off when I saw the gauge read past 32psi so it was not for more than an instant.

 

If you have enough fuel that combo will make mid 500s fairly easy and well over 400ft lbs at 34psi. I did one for one of customers that had S2s, 2.0L (built), 1450s, Magnus and a Black without a dump do this-



That boost level with the timing it wants will be a destroyed stock motor in short order, least at the above power level. I suppose if you had a stock intake, lame cams, low timing, you could keep it around 500whp and be "safe".

At 34-35 psi on the stock bottom end w/ that mod list your engine will literally be a hand grenade

 

Mine has seen 41lbs on a PTE 6266. Still running strong I would say its not very recommended though....
