Another low oil press. thread (evo IX-MR)

Hi guys,

Seems like every single low oil thread is defferent and none of the ones I read fit my scenario so here it goes: (bought the car from a dealer who bought it from the first owner (i know it cause I was trying to buy the car directly but couldnt sell my car on time...anyway....)

My MR tends to get the Low oil Press light on when it reaches temps above 60C (this happens always when the RPMS drop below 500, like when i let the clutch go...)

I got freaked out so I order a electric oil gauge and the AMS remote line for the sensor... install it, and checking with the procedure of the Manual the car is within the parameters:

hot oil-above 70C
iddle-> 8-10psi of oil press.
above 3.5k -> 88-90 psi of oil press.

the problem that freaks me is when i let the clutch go that RPMS drop below 500 both the light and the new gauge say the press is low...

Any thoughts??? Im guessing a tired oil pump? THe timing belt was done at a local mitsu dealer....but they didnt change the oil pump...
I read some threads of bad coolers...could this be the case?

Im running mobil Syn Perf. 10w-30(fresh with less than 100 miles with factory filter), im located at North Carolina and the car has 80kmiles and a huge book of service records with all the maint. done on time...

If I was the original owner I could take it to the dealership but since Im not... im SOL!!! unless i find a good guy that work at a dealership and want to slip this one like i was the original owner and stick it to the powertrain warranty...which i think it will happen 1-1,000,000 cases...)

Thanks for qll the good info... please!!!

500 rpm's is a hairs-width away from stalling.. Wouldn't surprise me to have the oil pressure light come on. The oil pump isn't moving much oil at 500 rpm's. If your readings are in the norm at all other rpm's/conditions, I'd say the only problem is your clutch engagement technique...give it some more gas bro!

Yep man I know...this happens when entering the garage, my driveway is inclined(very) and when my wife's outlander is inside the garage is a little tight...so I just let the car go up the little hill w/o pressing the gas... and to top it all... there is a squared bump (about 2.5" high) that def. don't want to pass at any speed above 2-3mph... I will take your advice, though...

But still i think its NOT normal... im not new to the 4g63(2g eclipse with EVO3 engine) and I know there are furious with oil press.)

Mine does the same thing only sub 700 rpm or when almost stalling. Which makes sense because I would say its safe to assume 5psi is when the light would illuminate. Rule of thumb is 10psi for every 1000rpm.

I still don't follow what you are trying to convey. So in what situations does the oil pressure light come on? Is it only when you are trying to move the car with the idle rpm?

more or less yes... when the oil temp is above 60-65C if I let the clutch go (like when you want to go thru a speed bump or something) ... so yes, when trying to move the car only with the idle rpm.

Thanks

an idle could be fine, but your idle stepper motor values might be out of order. most likely you won't notice it until you come to the stop light with your clutch in. operating a/c can also affect it one way or the other, since it uses different set of idle stepper values. i'm pretty confident that's the case. here a local mitsu dealer recommends adjustment of BISS screw on every oil change, and i bet you never adjusted yours.

i don't see how it's fit for an evo advanced forum btw.

Mine does the same thing, it comes on if I let the clutch out super low, if I let it out normal no problem, I don't think it's an issue since its only for a split second and only when you are super low in the rev range.
