Question for Al...
lol, there are people I know who have turbo and supercharged NSX's. In fact I goto the track with 1 several times a year. Also there are a LOT of Z06's that track that do have mods. Most of the people that do a lot of lapping days a year have some mods. Also most people that buy a 80k NSX don't mind the 10k it costs to supercharge it.

I was considering building an Evo for SCCA's T1 class last year but abandoned the project because I didn't believe the car could be competitive roadracing against a Z06 Corvette. I still believe this but would like to hear from you. All we can do to the motor is run a cat-back exhaust, free-flow air element and ECU tuning with no limit on boost. We can run 100 octane unleaded. The Vette makes about 380 HP at the wheels just for reference. You have made such strides tuning that I wanted to hear from you what kind of power this car can make within the parameters above.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Those mods on pump gas 93 octane average 260 - 280 whp
Personally - owning an evo is about more than beating a vette - its more than even beating a viper
Myself - I would try and out drive the other guy and learn how to work the AWD better and use other methods to dial in the handling such as air pressure in tires
It would be a great accomplishment to beat a zo6 wih a mostly stock evo and something worth working on
BTW - when the Viper club came to a BMWCCA sponsored auto x in New York once - this was with my ole STI/WRX conversion car - it was my great honor to beat each and every one of them that day. Sure the Viper has the upper hand on a autox over a laggy big turbo WRX - but they were all bling bling jerks who couldn't drive and mostly wound up driving int too many cones
I say get the stuff done on your car and go for it !
Just keep pleanty of race fuel in your garage !
Thanks for responding Al. We have met before at Pruven. I ran the Boxster S at the Valvoline Runoffs last year. I will be running the T1 Z06 this year. I still have the Evo and am trying to decide whether it could be competitive or just a fun street car. With only 320 HP on tap, the power to weight ratio just won't cut it with the vette. The Evo is also an aerodynamic brick. When straightaway speeds exceed 120 mph, I'm afraid the vette would just run away. By the way, the vette gets the full GM T1 suspension package and 315 tires all around so there's no gaining in the corners. Thanks again for responding and confirming my decision.

Sounds like drag racer mentality to me. Out and out acceleration doesn't mean everything on a road course. It's really only half the package. In the twisties, the better handler will have a huge advantage and can make up for a large hp handicap.

Couldn't you just purchase two ECU's, one for everyday the other for RACE. Just replace accordingly and you got yourself two tuend setups for different petro's. Maybe a lil expensive but its a good idea!
i have alot of experience with this post since i auto x quite a bit.
the zo6 is always a second or two ahead of me. its just a fact of life when they are on their sticky tires. don't underestimate the zo6 when it has a smooth area to work with.
the evo fits in right between the c5 and the zo6 at the autox from my experience.

I hate to say it, but if you are running a road course hitting the speeds that you are talking about, i.e. 120 MPH, then the Vette would have the upper hand. Yes, the Evo can be made to run with a stock Z06 relativly easily, but not with the limited mods that you are allowed. On a tight course the Evo could be competitive, but not a high speed one.

Autocross and road race is a BIG difference...

Thank you all for responding. I will race the vette and the Evo will remain on the road. Of course, if you see a white Evo hauling *** at a DE in the northeast, that just might be me.

I don't think that the Evo will have a problem breaking 120 and still being able to pull to 150 - 160 where it is properly set up to do so (here's a 6 at Nurburing):
