What's wrong with my car!!!!

So today I put an injen intake system on my car. Install went fine. Went for a test run, car spooled up fine and got up to about 4,000 rpms them I heard a pop (probably a back fire) and lost power and acceleration. Car is chugging and smells really rich. It won't go over about 5 mph. Is it the mass air flow sensor? Or something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you blew an intercooler pipe.

I checked all of the connections for the intake system and inter cooler pipes. Didn't see anything wrong.

Check em again. What you describe is a perfect example of blowing off an intercooler pipe or a massive boost leak. Try actually wiggling the pipes around, don't just look at them. If any of them feel loose or move at all then that's probably where the problem is. If you still can't find the problem do a boost leak test.

I suppose it's also possible that you hit boost cut and the car went into limp mode, but I'm pretty sure you still would have been able to go over 5mph. Did you have the car tuned after the install?

P.S. Definitely check the plumbing again before worrying about the tune.

Ok I'll check them out again. That would explain the sound right before the drop in power. I do not have a tune. The car is stock other then the intake and it has a cheap blow off valve from the previous owner.

I know it has been said, but it sounds like a major boost leak. Check the connections from your intake / bov / UICP again.

I think it's possible but not likely. Pull it off and see if you're able to move the piston by hand.

Glad you resolved the issue, youshould also replace that cheap BOV soon as it will only cause problems for you later. (I'm assuming you have an evo 9 lol under your avatar it says you drive an evo XI and I highly doubt you have the next generation already.) Go back to a stock 9 BOV for now until you decide on a different brand/model.
