Cams / heads / turbo spool?

Hey guys!

Noob here so take it easy on me ok while I try to figure this out.

So I want to use a PTE 5858 BB turbo on my Evo.

I bought the ATP adapter so I can use my buschur ported exhaust manifold.

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...6&cat=0&page=1

I'm not looking for big power, just the freedom from Mitsu turbos for more easily accessible T3's.

Look good?

But now the question is .. since that's a big turbo, how can I get it to spool faster?

I'm only going to run it at 20psi.

Would I be smart to port my head and run 280 cams to accomplish this?

What about these new Tomei 290 cams or would that be a waste on a stock bottom end?

Thanks EvoM!

There are alot better options then adapting the stock manifold, and also alot better turbo options. I'd like to point you over to the dyno results section so do some more research.

Cams- Kelford 272, or gsc s2 or s3.

Always port the head when its an option. I could go on and on about this one too

Hello Boosted91t.

Thank you!

But what's the problem with the 5858?

on a .63 ar housing .. shouldn't I be able to spool it up quick enough?

I read there is going to be some loss in the ATP adapter and again I'm fine with that.
I'm not looking for big power .. I'm just tired of having limited options as far as turbo's go.

I can pick up a precision 5858 tomorrow in Miami.
I have to wait for a mitsu turbo for weeks otherwise.

I've had 2 mitsu turbos go on me on this thing so I'm done.

I read a thread by AWDmotorsports praising the 5857 so I thought the 5858 would be a great choice since it should spool in the 4k range but I was thinking a ported head and bigger cams should help maybe even get it spooled at 3700/3800 rpm's.

Thanks!

*in general* the concept is you will lose spool (gain lag) the bigger the cam you go with. This is not an end all be all rule, a generalization.

hell, if it's spool you're worried about, maybe look at adjustable cam gears, and have them degreed for spool

AreSTG,

Yes I read that.

Some 272 cams + the ported head is the way I want to go.

Should be an interesting little freak once I get it done huh?

ported head, BC 272's with a 5858 on an ATP adapter.

Can't wait to get it done and then dyno it.

Thanks alot guys!
