you will not find very many people using turbos that big maybe some of the shop cars but most of them are still sticking with 67mm are you building a strictly drag car ?

Some of the European guys are running them on the street, as is mentioned the normal street turbo these days seems to be the 67mm as they make as much or more power as the old 71mm. Of course you are asking about the newer 71 which should make more power. Lots of bigger BW stuff though seems to go on, S372 and the like.

Depending the 40R, thats no bigger than a 68mm. 77mm would be a modified 42R or clipped 45R. It may have a 77mm EXCDUCER but we are talking about the compressor wheel inducer.

Available options for 4094 (from Garrett's website) -
...............................................Ind ucer....Exducer.....................Turbine....... ...................
751470-19.......751450-16.......67.80.......94.00.......52....0.72...77.0 0.............78....0.85
751470-20.......751450-16.......67.80.......94.00.......52....0.72...77.0 0.............78....0.95
751470-21.......751450-16.......67.80.......94.00.......52....0.72 ...77.00.............78....1.06
751470-22.......751450-16.......67.80.......94.00.......52....0.72...77.0 0.............78....1.19

Oh really?? Hmm ya this is the info i had..
Ok people, I know it still gets VERY CONFUSING the way Garrett has set up there nomenclature for turbos and also certain Precision Turbos too. Recently the Garrett GT4088R and GT4082R became available ( I believe now) as PRODUCTION turbos but also Precision has a GT4067R, keep in mind when you see the R at the end of the turbo name it means it is DUAL BALL BEARING and water cooled with the L on the end.

1: On the GT4088R the 40 means it is a GT40 turbine wheel which is 77mm and 73 trim all of the GT40 turbine wheels have these specs, now the 88 means that the EXDUCER is 88mm 54 trim and Inducer is 64.7mm and the compressor housing is .72 A/R

2: On the GT4082R the 40 means it is a GT40 turbine wheel which is 77mm and 73 trim all of the GT40 turbine wheels have these specs, now the 82 means that the EXDUCER is 82mm 50 trim and Inducer is 58mm and the compressor housing is .58 A/R

3: On the Precision GT4067R we got a kicker but still the same on the GT40 portion which pertains to the turbine wheel again 77mm and 73 trim all of the GT40 turbine wheels have these specs. Here is the kicker the 67 means this turbo has a 67mm Inducer and 84.07mm Exducer

We werent talking about turbine though, only the compressor inducer. When you said 77 you didnt specify which is why I included the specs up there that show the 67/94 split on the 4094 with a 77mm turbine.

The 4088 and 4082 have been available since the late 60s early 70s and were originally meant for 12L diesels.

Precision makes there nomenclature very easy these days-

XXYY where XX is compressor inducer and YY is turbine exducer

FP use the frame size and then compressor exducer

Garrett does the same as FP which what they have always done.

Using the BB center section may be a new thing, on that I am not sure. The wheels however have been around for awhile.
