Ticking sound, mostly when cold

Hey guys, my car has had a ticking sound for quite a while now. Started around 20k miles, has 40k now. Almost always goes away once it is up to temp.

I did try to pull the idler pulley off and the bolt head hits the frame rail before it comes all the way out... any ideas there?

Also checked with my ear and a screwdrive above and below and it sounds like it is in the belt area. I made sure it isn't in the oil pan or valve cover area when I first heard it.

What do you think it is?

As far as troubleshooting, should I pull the serpentine belt and start the engine to see if it is gone?

Thanks

I have been waiting for it to get worse or seize so I can figure out what it is, but it sure is consistent.

A lot of people saying it is the crank pulley. I find that hard to believe unless everyone has crank pulley bolts coming loose

I still think serpentine idler or timing belt idler.

I took some pictures of new bracket and old oem bracket.

Thanks... was on page 15 when I came back and saw your reply. They look pretty similar. Some people saying it was incorrectly machined. Wish I knew the exact difference so I could just machine it to the updated version.

Looking further back for the P/N and a site to buy from. Should only have to replace the bracket and re-use the other parts?

Edit: P/N's and cost from mitsubishiparts.net.
