2.4 questions

Well it looks like my 05 evo gsr may have a broken ring or something of the nature. (I have 95psi in cylinder 1 and 125 in the other 3) I am leaning towards the bbk full as a turbo but I am not sure if a 2.4 would be counter productive with the extra displacement? I plan to upgrade the entire rotating assembly from stock 2.4l or stroke to 2.5l but is the bbk just too small? My car isn't a drag car, really Just a dd.

Some people might ask why...
I still drive the car and a core 4g64 is pretty cheap. I can put the shortblock together without downtime. I want something a little different yet still potent.

Any info about turbo choice with 2.4 is appreciated.

displacement is never counter-productive.it's always a good thing.the black sounds like a good turbo on the 2.4L.i'm sure it will spool very fast.

what power are you looking for?

Unfortunately I am stuck with 91 octane at best so putting a number on it isn't really my most important factor. I ran a 14.001 at 5300 ft I would like to hit high 12's, low 13's on 91 octane while being street able/reliable. Solid power and reliability prob aren't easy or cheap.

I'm having a 2.4 put in my car as we speak. My car broke 2 weeks after I got it home. Less than 500 miles. Oh well. That's life I guess. Research as much as u can. From everything I have read your torque is gonna increase and your potential to upgrade turbos etc. later on will be on a very reliable set up if built properly. Read up. Two sides to everything. I'm excited about my build. Good luck.

Im just curious if a bbk full isnt enough turbo for a 2.4l. I have seen alot of builds around much larger turbos but I dont need 600HP... YET... i guess a dependable 400-450 would be nice. Also maybe a 6 speed swap with taller gearing to help take advantage of the lower redline.

stay with 5-speed.the 6's don't hold up to power.

How much power are you looking for out of a new setup?

I want a reliable 400-450 on 91 octane without a monster turbo or meth.

Also just check the cylinder with a bore scooe and saw no damage to speak of which is good. Maybe a bad spring, somthing with the valves?

I finished my 2.4LR build about 4 months ago and i can tell you it's worth it,i will never go back to a 2.0 again,i bought the whole 2.4 engine for $350.00,if you have questions about building it let me know i can tell you all about it,including the water pump that doesn't need an adapter,as for the turbo there are plenty of good choices out there, one option is the Kinugawa turbos, they offer great bang for the buck and good reliability and warranty for a stock replacement turbo,i'm currently putting down 510 hp and 472tq at 25 psi on 93 oct with their 25G while having great spool,so needless to say i'm really happy with it,there are some threads about it on here,i have posted my dyno sheets on there if you wanna see them

even at 500whp,they won't last as long as long as the 5-speed

I'm convinced that I am going with a 2.4l or maybe 2.5 stroker, forged internals at a minimum. When I find a cheap enough core I will hit you up for some info. The dyno numbers look pretty darn good, but with my 4500ft of elevation and 91 octane limit, I dont think I can pick up those sort of numbers, but I still think a setup similar to yours where I am should be in my range of 400-450.

I had a MAP 2.4 fully built with an FP Green and was running over 480whp and 440ftlbs on 93 as my daily driver. Spool is sick and almost instantaneous with the green. I'd imagine it would be similar with the bbk.

Thanks for the reply, this sounds exactally like what I am looking for. Do you have a build page or something to reference the parts used?
