4g64 manley h beam clearancing
hi guys, i've got a block with h beams and it clears fine while turning the crank, however it does look like a close fit, has anyone had problems with h beams hitting bottom of the cylinder? with i beams i've had to do it a few times but never heard of manley h doing it.

Cheers mate. That's the web against the block or the bottom of the cylinder? I've never had to clearance a Manley before. Was yours actually touchin or just too close fr comfort
if it looks close just get a dermal, put blue painters tape around were you are going to dermal. That is what i did and had not problems with it clearing after that and have had no engine problems yets. I put in I-Beams also.
Check my post with the pic on how i notched my 4G64 block for my Manley Turbo Tuff I-beams on this thread,i don't think you would need notching with H-beams though,Manley recommends 0.060" clearance between rod and blockhttps://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...vice-help.html

For more reference info(for everyone else reading this thread) what brand were they?
I have assembled two 2.3 strokers with Manley H beam rods in a 4G63 block and not had to clearance anything. I didn't do assembly on one other engine I had that I'm pretty sure had Crower hbeams, but it did not require clearancing either.

I'm in the middle of my 2.3L build.
4G63 Evo Block
100mm stroke
150mm Rods -->> TubroTuff I-Beams
I didn't realize that the clearancing is so severe.
It looks like these rods require the block (webbing) and the bottom of the cylinder on both sides to be clearanced.
Only part I don't like is that the piston goes all the way down where the skirt it protruding out of the bottom of the cylinder just a bit. Then you combine that with narrow skirt pistons. Once I clearance for the rods, there is going to be notably less skirt contact area then before.
Only good thing is that relatively there isn't a lot of side loading at BDC, but my experience at OEMs makes me cringe at these kinds of things.
