valve seal question

I'm in the process of doing a complete 2.0 engine build. While inspecting the head I noticed that all of the valve seals are blue..all of the the valve seal kits I see out there are half blue and half brown/black...and I believe the stockers are all brown/black(correct me if I'm wrong)...should all 16 be blue? Did any valve seal sets ever come this way? I'm not sure of the brand, they were installed by the previous owner and I can't get in contact with him. Am I looking at a major problem here?....its a built evo 9 head(s2 cams, gsc titanium beehives springs/retainers, zero tick lifters) should I be worried guys? Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't get around much but the Evo is the first car I've encountered that has different seals for the intake and exhaust. The exhaust valves would see more heat so maybe use a heat resistant material there. Still, since these would work on the intake side, why not use them there too and save a part #. I'm guessing I'm not the first to think of this.

The blue seals are Hi-temp viton, they will work on both the intake and exhaust.

Most shops will just stock the one part number and use it on both.

I just received my GSC Viton valve stem seals and they all came blue. I was currently searching this issue and BogusSVO has given the best info I have found yet. I just emailed GSC and asked them if this was correct but it must be seeing as your car already had them installed.

One reason you may get 2 different color seals is that the red/brown/black are cheaper, and have a lower temp rating.

The price difference is nominal, like .03-.05 cents per seal when bought in bulk
So to make a few more cents per sale, they get the blue vitions for the exhaust, and a lower temp (cheaper seal) for the intake.

On all the 4g heads I have built, I install blue Vitions on both the intake and exhaust.

I have bought 1000s of them, They will not cause an issue to install them on both sides.

Makes sense

This is what I received from Travis at GSC.

Hey Brandon,

Yes that is correct, we have changed them to all blue, which is a nicer, higher temp seal.

Thanks,

Travis Brodie
