My Check Engine Light Comes On

does anybody else have ths problem? i just installed my exhaust, intake, downpipe, bov and an mbc and now my cel comes on. my brother tells me it is the ecu and i need to change it because the chip does not recognize the parts i just put on. the car runs fine but i can't stand looking at the light...
if i do need to change the ecu, where can i get a new aftermarket ecu for my evo 8?

thanks

don't post in all caps either.

just reset your ecu... disconnect the negative terminal on the battery... for 3 seconds

i would recommend more then 3 seconds .. more like 5 minutes to make sure grounding is fully discharged etc... but yeah i had the same problem and i think its just the weather messing with your intake and ecu. no worries just clear the message

are you running catless....that combo of mods shouldn't throw a CEL unless you don't have a cat....get the code pulled before you reset it......just in case....better safe than sorry!!!!!

I don't understand why people are so quick to reset the CEL, without knowing what triggered it.

well i guess is personal preference, i have faith in my car...and know what i'm doing, most of the tiem i get the random misfires, a few times i've gotten overboost....

if its a serious problem, i'm sure it will come on again.

go to an auto zone and pull the code for free, then if it's not serious fix it and reset the light by disconnecting the negative lead to your battery for no less then 10 seconds, if you didn't fix the problem the service engine light will eventually come on again.

I'm no "tuner" but I have certainly learned a lot by reading these boards..

Personally, if i threw all that **** on my ride, I would definetaly test fuel, air etc...It would be the ONLY way I would throw that stuff on my car.

I would want to know for sure that the car was processing the changes those mods would encourage, without causing the car to misfire, run too rich, etc.

Not too mention a dyno run to anylize the results..and see if the mods are evn helping without a brain examination..remapping, etc.

I never thought it was a good idea to mod like that WITHOUT having an expert flash or at least tune the ECU to accompany the mods??!!

If he has a rase pipe he will get a cell light and there is no problem with that at all. He can drive it all day long with the cell light on. Its a sensor in the exhaust that is reading wrong A/F ratio. Anyways I have a feeling its your BOV either leaking or installed wrong.
