Hey guys, just wanted to get a second opinion on this. im switching my car off e85 to pump and ran into an over boost problem. i have an hks evc. but long story short, my car keeps wanting to boost 25+ i let off before it gets to crazy. but ive tried every setting on my evc, tried the stock boost solenoid, and also just hooked a line straight from the wastegate to the j pipe to just have the spring pressure 18 (fp wastegate). so technically speaking doing that alone should only let it boost 18 if im thinking right??? but it still is 25+ assuming wastegate is bad. opinions? thanks in advance

 

The wastegate could be bad or there could be a hole in one of the boost lines.

 

Maybe one of the vacuum/boost hoses is pinched or punctured. Or the vacuum/boost hose ends may not be securely fastened as in you didn't secure them with zipties or hose clamps.

WGA failure per se however is not a too common occurence. Although it can happen. It is a rarity. Usually the diaphragm will tear or rupture due to misuse as when in trying to adjust the turnbuckle the backup nut is not first loosened.

OP: The extremely cold, freezing(30*F.) ambient air temps in the State of Washington need to be factored into the overall booost equation.

 

i have a fp green the temperature here doesnt help but still think the boost should be managable but it doesnt even respond differrent to everything ive tried. i know wastegate problems arnt common. all my vacuum lines i replaced in the summer and everyone of them are ziptied on. and i dont have any boost leaks. if i did wouldnt that cause it to not boost fast enough anyways? i have my stock wastegate i was gonna throw on and see what it does.

 

yea i would have to say its a vacuum line probably.. the same thing happened with my jetta.. i swore it wasnt a vacuum line but after a while i had no choice but to check it and sure enough.. that was the problem.. never hurts to check.
