Exclamation 260f oil temp too hot?

I went road racing over the weekend and i saw my oil temp gauge hit up to 260 at one point. im running 10-40 amsoil
water temp also shot up in the dash.
I run oil cooler as well

Is this typical road racing temp? it was about 55f outside temp.....

Could i have broken something? Everything seem to be running ok....

That is too hot. How does your cooling system look? i.e any coolant leaks that you know of? Is the the radiator topped off with fluid? When is the last time you bled the system? My first thought is that maybe your thermostat is stuck closed. That may be a place to start.

Are you still using an oil cooler or did you delete that?

It may be too hot compared to what people are used to seeing on these motors but there is nothing wrong with 260* with quality oil. Back when I used to do dyno testing at _______ company we would run plenty of testing at WOT on turbo 4 cylinders with 250-260 oil temp all day.

coolant level is ok. does flushing the system help with anything?
i always thought that was a "myth"

I would run some quality 20/50 at the track. Brad penn or valvoline V1. I've talked to a few people,GSC and English racing and they all agree that 20/50 is better for the track. There is a thread somewhere that Aaron explains it. I didn't think it would be good for stock clearances but it has the protection you need while cornering/track time.
Have you thought upgrading to the Setrab or another cooler? Seems much cheaper then a rebuild.

car does run a setrab cooler.....
does running 20-50 cool down the car better?? or are you saying that just from performance point of view?

I think what he's saying is that those particular oils at those weights do a better job at dealing with thermal breakdown during a circuit or HPDE event. It also may mean that the cooler is not getting good direct access to air, regardless of the upgrade to a Setrab cooler. The 20/50 is also much better on the turbocharger's thrust bearing and journal bearings for longevity.

At this point its not about performance enhancement (listen to me, I'm sounding like an Enzyte commercial). Its about ensuring that the car can survive high endurance driving behaviour. It may mean you make a couple of changes like ducting to the cooler, better oil, better baffled pan, better fuel pump, etc. If you're going to continue these events on a regular basis. These steps could ALL save your engine in the long run.
