wow very interesting, good find. i have a lot of the problems they state you will/could have... but my question is, i they held up under high RPM and didnt become un reliable at high hp why would everyone remove them, besides to free up rotating mass.

I think a lot of it is longevity, Most people with high horse power motors tend to race them, which in the end will need to be maintained more frequently and or rebuilt, so you may not notice the problems that a non bs motor can present. I think if you to a bs'd motor and a non bs'd motor and drove them for let's say 15 years or something (just shooting from the hip) the bs'd motor will last longer. At least that's what I am getting out of the article, obviously many many people run without the bs, but its more of a longevity thing. I don't know correct me if I'm wrong.

One great reason I know of for removing the shafts is it removes the possibilty of the bs belt breaking and taking out the timing belt. That being said I still have my balance shafts and do not plan on removing them.

This is correct but they make kevlar belts for that problem

If and when it goes or needs rebuilt they are NOT staying in. Good read none the less

I guess it depends on what your looking for as far as race car or street car. I'm keeping bs in my engine for longevity and comfort reasons.

Some remove them for very high-power builds, but most remove them, because they're ignorant and are looking for another mod, intelligence be damned. HTH

Balance shafts spin at twice your engine speed. They have no place in a 9-10k high hp build. Only another set of bearings and a belt to fail, not to mention parasitic loss, added weight, etc.

Agreed. But in a daily driver, or even a weekender that will be kept for a long time they make sense.
