Mivec/Non-Mivec

Hey everyone,

I'm a dsm'er and I drive a 97 mitsubishi eclipse gs. It had a 420a motor but I am swapping in an evo drivetrain with a 2.4 long rod.

I have been piecing this together rebuilding everything as I go along, and I still need a cylinder head.

My short block consists of:

Manley H Performance 156mm rods
HD Wiseco Pistons
ACL Race Bearings
OEM Uncut 4g64 Crankshaft

My question is would you recommend using a evo 8 head without mivec, or a evo 9 head with mivec. I know that I will have to tap an oil line for the mivec if I go that route. I plan to install Kelford 276/272 cams, Kelford Springs and retainers along with 1mm oversized valves.

This is going to be a street driven car, with regular drag racing use.

Would love to here your recommendations for mivec.

IMHO no mivec, don't complicate your swap, I am sure you will already have enough issues to deal with.

I agree, and the only reason I ask is to know if they is any real significant affect to having mivec. I have heard that some people may actually remove their mivec system for drag racing.

For drag racing I think its accepted that non-MIVEC is fine/prefered. For a road racing car, you want MIVEC.

It will ultimately come down to which I can find first, and for the best price.

Sounds like an extensive job! What's the advantage of installing an evo's drivetrain on a DSM? Most aftermarket internals are interchangeable anyways, plus, head & turbo upgrades are widely available for DSMs.

This is very interesting, I'd appreciate some further information.
