Lost compression in one cylinder

Driving down the road, the car just suddenly sounded like a subaru. I knew instantly i was down a cylinder. Pulled the spark plugs, they look fine and have no debris on them. Next compression test motor and one cylinder has 0. The needle doesnt even flinch on the comp. tester

I dont hear anything rattling inside the cylinder/motor either

Motor is not stock and has built block/head.Im not getting into details on who built the motor or anything like that, so dont even ask.

i just want to know what i should be checking or what can cause this. I havent checked anything yet.

Maybe the valves? Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but even if the rings were shot, there should be at least "some" compression...

I was thinking valves. Id guess it would be bent, not broke since i dont hear anything rattiling in the motor.

I havent checked the timing on this motor, but im assuming the only way to bend a valve is to have piston to valve contact....which im hoping did not happen

Could be a burnt valve. Do a leak down test. It will tell you what's up.

I had work done on my car back in March. Shop I took it to was suppose to pull the head, do the headgasket and new cams, springs, and retainers. Make a long story short, these a**clowns didnt seat the valves correctly or sumthin and cause 2 of the valves from 2 different cylinders to drop down ever so slightly and which caused them to be bent. So I had 0 compression in 2 cylinders, imagine that sh**. What I'm tryin to say is, the valves can literally barely be bent and cause those cylinders to not hold compression. I would say best bet for you is, pull the head and check out your valves.

Not what I want to hear. ^^^

this motor was not built by some mom and pop shop. It was done by a big name shop. Motor doesnt even have 1000 miles on it. Im giving the shop the oppurtunity to make it right, thats why im not mentioning names

^Good call. Give them a chance to do you right. But I would like to know what actually went wrong when you find out.

Now i need to find out did the valve hit the piston

I don't know if this will help save you any time but I used a friend's Milwaukee video borescope he got from Home Depot to check my motor. To look back at the valves its not that good with the little mirror, but to look straight at the pistons it'll work really well. You'll see the indent on the piston where the valves kissed the piston. Anyway good luck and I hope your valves and pistons are good.

Im trying to get ahold of one of those right now ^^^

To me it doesnt looks like the valve was pushed down far enough to hit the piston. And the motor seemed to spin okay during the compression test. Didnt hear any strange noises or anything
