4g64 Evo 8 Questions

Hey guys/gals,

I've got a 4g64 block that I'm building into a long rod with my evo 8 cylinder head. I have read that 5 of the main oil ports on the 4g64 deck surface need to be blocked off. I had assumed that this was because they did not match up to the evo 8 head.

Well when I put my head on and looked down the oil galleries, they all matched up. I currently have three of the five ports blocked with pipe plugs and have two left to do, but before I continue to block these off I wanted to know if I even needed to...

I'm not sure if this has to do with the hg or not, because I haven't gotten one yet. But I do plan to use the 4g64 MLS gasket, so that I don't need to bore the 4g63 gasket to fit the piston size.

Anyhow here is a picture of three I have already plugged and the other two that I am referring to. Let me know if I need to finish blocking these or not.

Thanks!

Correct me if i am wrong but you block those off on the old DSM 2.4L blocks. You do not have to block anything of on the 4g64 blocks that fit evos. I did not block anything of in my 2.4.

Haha that might explain it.

My 4g64 is from a 2003 outlander, and I'm building this engine for my 97 eclipse gs. So since it's a dsm I was probably being told I need to block them buy other dsm'rs who assumed I had an older 4g64 block.

Alright thanks, just wanted to double check before going any further. I'm just glad I hadn't sealed the pipe plugs in completely or else I'd have a hell of a time getting them out.

And for what its worth if the motor did in fact come out of a 2003 Outlander don't you have the wrong block for a dsm? I have an 03 outlander 2.4... was there when it got pulled and it fits the evo style with cam gears on passenger side vs dsm have cam gears on driver side? Or am I missing something???

That block will not work with a 1st or 2nd gen. Will go nicely in a '00+ Eclipse, Outlander or Evo though.
