For Those Looking For a Wideband o2

Here

You should check these out. Ive heard good things and they are the best price on the market that i have seen. All you need is the kit and the rpm converter.

Got one last week. I used it to tune my buddy's and Mine (EVO's).
Worked great. I want to get the converter to use the datalogger function. They also have some cool stuff coming out for it.

Nice.

I'm assuming you all welded a bung into your downpipe somewhere for installation?

Does anyone have this unit yet?

I had one on a carburetor(ed) car works well, check out their web site, and here is, direct to their support forum,
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/forums/index.php

yup weld a bung to the downpipe AS FAR AWAY from the turbo as you can get, heat is an issue.

Sounds very similar to the one from machv: http://store.yahoo.com/machevo/wio2sekit.html The one from machv doesn't seem to have the (built in) datalogging features, but does have0-5v and 0-1v outputs. It's really nice to see these becoming available at decent prices!

I did some poking about and here is some more info on the product I mentioned earlier: http://www.plxdevices.com/

It looks like there is more than one model. The device itself does not do data logging as far as I can tell, but there is the option of using a wireless connection to log to a laptop. (This is pretty cool actually). It also mentions that you can replace the existing (stock) O2 sensor with this unit and use a filtered signal from the WB sensor.

Both units seem to have their pros and cons. I don't see any technical reason you would choose one over the other (ie, better readings -- accuracy/precision) but I'm no expert.

I've got an LM1 with the datalogging attachment. I haven't used it on my Evo yet, but it worked great to tune my Camaro. I can't imagine using it without datalogging though.

On the Evo, I was told by the wide band manufacturer that I shouldn't put the bung on the downpipe (too hot), so I mounted mine just after the cat/test pipe.

I usually run a cat on the Evo, which presents a problem on tuning. I could put a test pipe on just to tune it and then reinstall the cat, but I'm worried that the tuning will then be off for the cat. I could tune it with the cat in place, but I'm not sure how far off the cat makes the reading. The cat will obviously make it ready overly lean even if it's just right before the cat. It'd be much easier just to have the bung on the downpipe.

Exclamation

An update for those that are interested.

I've been looking at wideband o2 kits for the past week or so and have been more and more impressed with the Innovate Motorsports product that started this thread. The main issue I have with it is that it's really designed to be a hand-held unit and I want something permanently mounted in the car. However, Klaus (from Innovate) has alluded that there will be other options in the near future.

In short, I prefer the products from Innovate for what they offer at the price. (I feel the LM1 is a more sophisticated unit for just a little bit more.) I also have had a very good experience in dealing with Klaus and feel their designs (and future plans) will be a better match for what I want to do.

If anyone is considering a wideband 02, they should seriously look at the Innovate products.

Couldn't the unit be mounted out-of-sight when not being used with velcro tape?

Okay so.....

Can you use this unit all by itself? Or do you have to use it with a standalone ECU? I need something to where you just weld in a bung and read the A/F right of the meter.

Looks like a nice unit. I think you did it with datalogging right? So do you have to wire the RPM converter from the Spark plug wire all the way inside your car? Isn't it a bit bulky and inconvinient?

I don't think it worth anything if you datalog the O2 without the RPM as a reference So I guess there is no easy way without a bulky wire huh?

Yeah it sure could. I have heard of at least one Evo owner who had the LM1 tucked away in the glove box.

Yep you can use it by itself. It is designed to work exactly as you describe (weld a bung and run wire to the controller).
