Evo in gear but doesn't move
Evo in gear but doesn't move
I was driving my 2003 Evo 8 to my friends shop to change my power steering pump. I was rolling to a stop light, it turned green and I accelerated. Something gave way and I stopped accelerating. I pulled over.
Previously I was driving on the highway at 65+ for an hour before getting off the exit.
Car goes into all gears.
When stationary, I put it into gear, let the clutch out and it doesn't move.
Each gear, let the clutch out and it does this:
1/2 gear make a slight grinding noise
3/4 gear makes a louder grinding/rattling noise
5/R are the loudest
Clutch is engaging and the slave cylinder can be seen moving
I haven't pulled the motor/trans/tcase yet and I am looking to see if anyone has had similar issues.
Thanks for the help everyone!

Yeah the TOB probably popped out of the pressure plate
Edit: if it goes into gear then it's probably not the TOB because if the bearing popped out you wouldn't be able to pull back the pressure plate and putting the car into gear wouldnt be possible while the engine was on

Either your clutch gave up the ghost abnormally quick or the springs fell out. The act clutches have been known to have the springs fall out, not that they are all bad, I've just seen a couple threads about that situation. But I suggest dropping the trans to verify.
I would place my bets on the springs on the clutch disk. Had the same thing happen on a friends subie with a sprung 4 puck act. Was sticky getting it into the gears and would not engage fully due to the spring sitting between the pp arms and disk.
This. Not to get in a discussion about ACT, but as of recent their quality control has gone to ****. More than likely the disc is done for.
