fp red spooling at 3500 sounds pretty awesome IMO. What rpm do you hear the waste gate opening at?

boost leak test.

everything else you do until that's been done is a moot point and a waste of time

is it a newer red or older? how many miles are on it? if the boost leak comes up with nothing look into the wastgate and flapper. I had a green and the flapper eventually fell off causing a similar sounding problem.

What WG is fitted to the turbo? Also, as "letsgetthisdone" asked, at what engine RPM and at what boost level are you hearing the wastegate flapper valve crack open?

1.Put something in front of the radiator so you dont damge the fins
2.Disconnect the wastegate arm from
The hotside of the turbo
3.Pull on the wastegate arm, if it is difficult then it is NOT the wastegate
4. Check your manifold to turbo gasket, and your turbo to o2 gasket
5. Boost leak test
6. I HATE TO SAY IT, YOU MAY HAVE A CRACKED HOTSIDE.
I hope this helps..

One more test, pull all the lines off the wastegate and turbo outlet pipe.
Take a spin BE CAREFUL IT SHOULD OVER BOOST
I REPEAT BE CAREFUL
Then you'll know if the wastegate is working properly

I know because I just went down this road, building boost wouldn't go past 11psi, I had a cracked hotside, replace gaskets, and new hotside, VOILA !!!
Back in the game, let me know if you need help Im in LA, take care..

This is a good test. Although it is not necessary to disconnect anything to pull on the actuator rod. At least, I never do. Just remove the manifold heat shield first.
