Clutch Slippage, time for a new one again!
Well If youre implying that im lying then youre wrong. Ive done a couple launches, but nothing crazy, some donuts in the snow. No drag strip or any other racing. Most street races i ended up in were from a rolling start. There probably is something in my driving style that accounts for it, but i really dont think so. Im not really saying that its all mitsu's fault that il be on my third clutch, but im still pissed off about it. Like you said theres people that beat the crap out of them and they last a long time. I dont get it.

heres one thing i noticed... ofcourse if you dumb the clutch, you are giving it some major stress.. but lets also consider people who overly baby their evo can infact be overly feathering their clutch too..

Personally, I've never smelled clutch or felt it slip, period.
I've never launched the car, but I don't baby it by any means. If you don't think doing donuts is going to wreak havoc on your drivetrain, I personally think you're either ignorant or optimistic.
When my clutch does finally give up the ghost, I will replace it out of pocket since I have a modified car, just like you do.
this is such a touchy topic cuz one person's 'babying' is another's 'ragging'....for example my friend doesnt consider his driving habits 'aggressive' but i consider his style aggressive... its all a matter of perspective.....what is surprising is when im driving by myself and i dont care about giving a perfectly smooth ride, i shift quick.... when my parents are in the car i want to give as 'luxury' ride as possible and i feather more during shift and once in awhile i can smell the hint of clutch burn if im accelerating from zero..... there is no reason why a clutch would burn out quicker then another evo besides your driving habits. malfunctioning is different then wearing out unusually quick
What do you mean by ignorant or optomistic? Im not ignorant by any means. Im not a clutch expert but I do understand how it works. When i said i did donuts, i didnt mean that it was a daily activity. Literally it was twice. Im not going to argue abotu my driving habits though, cuase like other people have said i guess its all opinion. I havent demanded that the dealer replace my clutch under warranty, i didnt the first time either. I was upset however at the lack of service I recieved, and they treated me like ****. The first time they didnt work with me at all, they just said "Its your fualt, theres nothing we can do for you." and gave me the number and the pamphlet for disputing warranty issues. This time around they were even less helpful, and basivcally told me to expect replacing it all the time. To me its a case of them taking thier money and running. With all of the other cars my family has owned, the dealerships went out of thier way to do what ever thet could and make sure all the procedures and policy were explained in advance. When i bought my evo, no one told me that i should expect to replace my clutch often. They didnt even let me drive it until the papers were all signed. I love the car just as much as the day I bought it, but its not what i signed on for. The service guy even said on the phone today that its a race car that they sell for street use and the clutch is the weak point, but he still said that it was ultimately jsut my problem becuae the clutch is only a wear item. I just think that is the wrong way to deal with your customers.

4G63>OOOO, I am just going to replace it and not ***** to mitsu about it. Im just pissed that they were such *****es last time and after all of that drama and money, im back where i started.
I suggest throwing in a fidanza flywheel into the mix when you do the job, take a look at www.roadraceengineering.com , I purchase EVERYTHING I needed to get the job done from them. Plus if you purchase a clutch and flywheel at the same time from them they knock off $75.

So i just got off the phone with the service guy at the dealer. He basically told me with my driving habits i should expect to replace my clutch every 6 months. He also made the claim that his dealership has sold 40+ evos and very few of them have had clutch problems. He said the reason the first one went out so fast was because there was less tire slippage in the summer. The second one took longer because it was winter so the clutch had less wear because the tires slipped more because it was winter. Those two statements make sense, but i'd say 90% of my milage are highway miles, going between chicago and western illinois university(4 hour trip). Slowing down only for toll booths, i dont even stop because i have I-Pass. When my car is here at school it hardly moves at all. During the summer i take the train to work, so my car sits in the driveway. I know im not going to get warranty service, but it is just frustrating. He told me that aftermarket clutches DO NOT work well with the stock fly wheel. Is that true?

I didn't say you are at fault. Do a search there are many before you who had the same clutch wear problem. Maybe it's their driving habits or maybe there's something about the stock clutch we don't know about. None the less, if you are going through these clutches faster than a tire change than you better have $$$$ to spare. But if you are like me where money is limited than you better think about your driving habits really close or spend the extra money and get yourself a twin plate which are designed for all kinds of driving i.e. street, drag, track, etc. while keeping the pedal pressure very close to stock. I say this because some guys who went through stock clutches went through aftermarket cluches as well. Now if anyone goes through the twin plate like the stock clutches than there is something wrong with their car or their left leg has a mind of it's own.
I just bought the cusco twin disc carbon carbon "holds 750hp ."and this thing is bad-*** installed my the Horsepowerhouse in lexington KY man this thing grabs like a crack and his crackpipe, it is worth the money, ACT is ok for stock or mold bolt-ons but it well worth the money or just go big pimpin and get the triple disc carbon $4000
