Evo Viii Timing Belt

Hello, my name is Timothée, I'm from Geneva in Swiss, i speak only french, but i have many question.
It's a google translate, sorry.

So here I am about to buy a Lancer Evo 8 of 2005, completely original . It has 37,000 miles , services were followed etc ... But I just saw that the timing belt has never been made . I read that it was every 60,000 miles , so I 'm far away, but the belt still almost 10 years. I have to worry? not to buy the car?

If I have one that at 54,000 miles , the belt already been made and is in very good condition also , I intend to keep the car longer, on average how many miles the Evo Viii yours , obviously with maintenance monitoring etc. ... (I am a mechanic )

Thank you for help

Bonjour monsieur. Bienvenue. I took quite a few years of French, too bad I forgot a lot of it.

I would check for cracks or worn areas on the belt. It wouldn't stear me away from the car if the belt was in bad condition, it would just be an easier way to negotiate the price down. And of course if you get the car, replace the belt asap.

There a few people who have gone many miles (over 200k) and still have a good running engine. I think there is even a thread somewhere with people posting their high mileage evos and how well they have been running.

Okay, I'll look through the distribution cache, if the timing belt is in good condition , I can drive the car a few weeks before the timing belt ?

I must in any case be 300 miles to return the car.

Because 37,000 miles it's little.

I saw a lot of people on this forum change their belt 60,000 miles without taking into account the years, that is why I ask myself

Thank's for answers.

yeah you should be fine. Depending on the condition of the belt though, I would watch my driving habits.

I would never skip buying an Evo with 37,000 mile just because the timing belt hadn't been done. However, the FSM recommendation is 60.000 miles or 60 months.

The timing belt service interval for my wife's car, a 2004 WRX, is 105.000 miles or 105 months. Well, the car has less than 60k on it as I write this. Last fall I noticed the belt change was over due on time. I put enough miles on vehicles that that never before was an issue. 105 months is a little less than nine years and the car was eleven years old.

Anyway, I did the belt job and all the old stuff looked fine. However, the old pulleys were left lying around in a dry spot in the garage and one day I picked one up and it was locked. It wasn't locked when it came off of the car. So, that was a lesson.
