Evo IX MR Transfer Case Small O-Ring

So a while ago I found a leak between my t-case/tranny and determined it was probably one of the O-rings/seals since I recently had done an engine rebuild and tore it all apart. Upon taking everything out I didn't notice anything especially blatant screaming I AM LEAKING, but I ordered a new shaft seal, and new O-rings (the large 2" one and the small .5" one). Now that I am looking, I can't for the life of me figure out where in the name of Satan the small O-ring is supposed to go... There doesn't appear to be a good place for it to sit and the picture in the manual is unclear as all nipples. Anybody done this before that can shed some light on the situation?

On the transfer case side there is a machined seat that the oring sits in around the hole.

I'll take a pic of a spare transfer I have and get back to you.

When I was doing a clutch job I found that little o-ring on the floor. There is nothing much holding it in places. Enter 3M yellow weather strip adhesive. That o-ring was not going anywhere again.

Hmm. Good call. I will have to pick some up after work today. Yeah I think I vaguely remember seeing that on the floor of my garage after I did the rebuild and I was just like wtf is that? That little-*** recess in the case is not real obvious...

I have been taking pictures of the process for taking this thing apart and whatnot. Maybe afterwards I will do a writeup with pictures (I noticed the pictures on the current write-ups are broken). I can link it to this thread if people are interested..?

write ups with pics are always greatly appreciated.

that oring is the cause for most leaks between the tcase and tranny. it doesnt stay on when they come apart.

You could apply a thin coat of assembly paste to hold it in there before you mate them together, too, if you want.

Yeah, I think I will do something like that. Just stick it in the one side so that it stays put. I will do a write-up as well later on. I will make sure to write it so that it is more clear than the others that are up there. Thanks for the quick responses guys, you are all majestic heroes.

Revival! Will this o-ring give a guy the 3 ACD lights? As in will it prevent system from...doing what it's supposed to? I'm guessing pressure should build and I am deep into why I still have no ACD(many pumps, tests, rebuilds...) though I do have a wet spot(oil) about where I think that o-ring lines up and when I put the car back together did not know to think to look for it. So I suspect it fell out. And maybe it's the source of my grief.
