Review: FP 71HTA

I just bolted it on and got a chance to drive it. it's currently on my old tune, so Jay has some work to do, after the holidays LOL.
anyway, i did a couple quick, partial pulls to check out AFR and boost. everything looked good enough so, i decided to do a quick log to check how well it worked.
i floored the pedal and it spooled, like, yesterday LOL.

without tuning the 3-port, timing, etc it still reached 20psi at about 3,400RPM. and that was with the solenoid and boost fluttering all weird.

i can't wait to see what it does when it's fully tuned and running the boost we want.

i'll follow up with dyno charts as soon as we're done. what a great little turbo for anyone not needing fancy dyno numbers.

mods, for future reference:
Stock short block
Buschur cone filter
FP HTA 71 (TiAl wheel)
3" Buschur TBE with a Cherry Bomb muffler added mid-stream as a resonator + resonated test pipe
Stock head with Greddy 264 EasyCam
GrimmSpeed 3 port
1450cc FIC
255 Walbro
AMS 3" FMIC
INJEN LICP

***preliminary update.

Conservative track tune is mostly done. 355/300.
Daily tune will make more.

Did you get it with the anti surge cover or the standard one?

Standard. I run the OEM intake, etc so I needed it to fit, otherwise I would have got the standard IX HTA (it only comes with the AP cover now).

Can't wait to see results of this thread - debating an FPgreen or a 71HTA myself!

Me too! I expect The peak hp to only be slightly higher than a stock IX turbo, but I'm hoping for tons of midrange.
Anything more than that would be icing on the cake.

**edit
I like the Green, but I wanted the quickest spool I could get. I'm okay with the trade off of less power: better response

I have seen +60 hp with HKS 7460 which is pretty much same size turbo.. on 93 pump with mild cams.

In europe fp71 has been dynoed at 450 hp while 80 series maxes out at about 390 - 400 depending on whose dyno you trust..

I bought the 71 with antisurge cover because I wanted to run it.. switching to 7163 but am itching to install it in some one elses car.. just to see what it will do..

91oct is surprisingly disappointing. A similar setup I had did about 333whp with a IX turbo. I'd expect 350whpish, given the rest of my mods.
Like I said, I'd take more. Not a problem LOL
