Trouble with starter; video + alternatives

Hi guys.

Got a built car that got a faulty ignition. (No contact to engage starter, stage 3 when turning key, stage 1 & 2 are fine)

Did not have new ignition at hand, so i installed an easy-fix startbutton.
Hooked it up to the signalpower-cord directly to the starter, via the button and to the +.
Worked fine for a couple of weeks, but now I am having problems getting the starter to crank the engine (video)

I think I've got i narrowed down to 3 options (but not sure):

Alt 1: faulty starter?
Alt 2: broken teeth on engaging flywheel?
Alt 3: i messed up the original signalcable to the starter, causing a fall in amps, making the starter "to weak" to continue crankining?
Thanks for any sencible suggestions..

The car has been running on e85 in cold climate for 2 years, so the starter has got its share of beating. Just mentioning it. Perhaps IT is of relevance.
About -15-20 now a days, but i dont think todays weather is of any relevance.

Sounds like a starter to me! Bendix sound like they are not staying engaged.

Battery is charged and functioning well.

IF the voltage is crucial i can also mention that i've jused a "electric thief"-a connector that cuts into the original signal-cord. (Power-thief is connected to the startbutton, and from the button to the +)
Perhaps this connector has cut to much of the cables diameter, causing it not to get enough power.

The connector i connected to the signal cable.

If this is not a possibility (damaged signal cable) I think i support the bendix suggestion.

Jump the hot to the signal at the starter to rule out the motor itself. If it cranks easily you attack wires back.
