Clutch check... (pic included)
Can somebody verify what the tolerances for a stock EVO clutch are for the clutch disk? I have 11k miles and the clutch disk shows a slight blueing on the center, but most of it wipes off with a rag... as you can see from the pic, I have quite a few mm's on both sides of the disk. Probably 2mm before the first rivet... The flywheel has some slight smearing on it and the clutch plate is a little smeared as well. I can still feel the stock manufactured record grooves in the flywheel, and there are no deep gouges in either piece..
Bottom line, the dealer claims my clutch is shot and won't last 1,000 miles. If this is the case, the clutches they put in the evo's are definitely not made to handle the horsepower for any length of time... For this kind of horsepower you'd think they'd put a ceramic disc to dissipate the heat... or at least tell you they put a typical POS clutch in...

they want me to pay for the labor and the parts of the clutch... at their rate...
The in-laws own a repair shop and I'd rather pay their rates... Second opinion before posting this states that I have about 10,000 miles left on the clutch shown in the pic...
I'd rather find a clutch and flywheel I want rather than spending the money on another POS stock clutch...

Something interesting... the stock clutch has the 'bluing' already in stock form...

MiT screw us up on a lot of things with the EVO in which they could have easily fix or had made it better to cost less headache and warranty issues. Looks like ti wasn't built to last. They did it for the $$$$$$. It just goes to show how they want to built this car, the old american poor quality style.
Nice car under poor quality supplier

This is no different than any of the Skyline GTRs btw. Their stock clutches won't last 2-3 passes at the strip before completely being shot.
It's par for the course with factory turbo AWD cars.
