Listen to my tick!- Video link

I noticed this tick a while back and stopped driving the car. I proceed to change the oil- made no difference. I took the lifters out and cleaned them out with 2x diesel soak and air blow out- no difference. My next step is to check cam timing to make sure the belt didn't jump a tooth. Then a compression test. Followed by new lifters if those checks seem fine.

Does this sound like a top end lifter tick? I sure hope it does because anything else will be pricey. The sound comes on with a warm engine. A few minutes of idling will begin the ticking. If it's dead cold, then it won't tick.

Did you do any sort of timing belt job then noticed the tick. Is it once the engine is warm and idle drops? Is it rhythmic or non-rhythmic?

Can you take a video with the hood up and try and see if it's coming from the number 1 cylinder?

I had to remove the timing components 4k miles ago to get to the motor mount. Everything was marked and put back on;it has been good for the duration. It seemed like it's came from closer to cyl 1 side but not positive. Tried with a screwdriver but could exactly pin point it. Car's not with me atm. The sound is very constant. Not rhythmic.

To me it sounds like a lifter. Cleaning them out wont revive them. I guess to verify you can move them around.

Also you can pull injector or coil on each cylinder see if the noise changes at all, so you identify the affected cylinder.

If you replace the lifters with zero tick ones do some research, ive seen them cause compression issues on evom.

Having listened to many 4G63 ticking engine videos I've learned that lash adjusters, rods and wrist pins sound the same. Sorry. On other engines each sound is distinctive.

Hi, did you manage to solve that issue? I am having the similar issue now. Currently using GSC Zero Tick Lifters but it’s equally noisy.
