Boost leak test

Hi all,

So I pressurized the intake track (from the turbo inlet), and I can hold 30psi, but only if there is a continuous supply of air. I found only one leak (right by my Tial - the welder was not only expensive, but didn't do it right since there is a pinhole leak). It's extremely small though so not responsible for consuming all the air. The air isn't coming out the exhaust, and I can't find any leaks anywhere else - though the air flow sounds loud. The breather pipes out the top of the engine don't have any significant air coming out so I don't think it's air getting past the rings either.

So my question is - how long should the intake system hold pressure for before it dissipates? Since it holds 30psi, and does so indefinitely as long as the compressor has enough reserve, I'm trying to figure out if it's behaving normally. If I turn off the air supply, it falls off from 30psi pretty quickly, but then slows down. It will hold 5-10psi for a while (15-30secs) before it bleeds off.

Thanks!

S.

minute or so...slowly drops down. If it falls off quickly, then you have a one or more decent sized leaks.

Maybe spray down the intercooler with some soapy water.

Hi all,

I found the issue - I replaced the brake vacuum line without fitting a new check valve! So the brake booster became a boost leak. Put that in and now it holds pressure for a
while.

Thanks all!
