That's probably why they didn't do it, though.
They're Kelfords, not HKS, but I have heard the same exact thing. Force Fed Performance told me that springs were not really needed with the kelfords. I still figure.. if the head is off, why not spend the extra $300 for peace of mind.

It's funny they told you that when it appeared there was clear evidence of valve float letting the retainers smash valve seals.

Force Fed is the shop that originally installed the cams, probably 5+ years ago.. I take my car to a different shop. I called them just to be 100% sure they didn't do springs/retainers with the cams, they looked at their records and said they did not, and because they don't feel springs/retainers are really necessary with the kelford 272s.

But i guess that this thread shows they are needed.

I'm kinda surprised at that. I don't know that I've heard many people run Kelfords without upgraded springs. I'm pretty strict with only changing parts I have to and even I'd swap springs.

I even did springs for my GSC S1s.

S1s are the only ones id say its not absolutely necessary but great rule of thumb

Upgraded cams should get upgraded springs. As I said before, I've seen HKS 272's cause valve float on higher mileage springs. And they aren't even close to what a GSC S1 is.

my HKS 272's prematurely wore out my valve seals on my Evo 8 (heavily tracked) in 40k miles.

Do you guys think it may take a day or two of driving to get any leftover oil residue out of the exhaust? Or should the smoke go away immediately after new seals / first crank?

When I did valve seals the fix was immediate. But mine were worn not smashed.

Ok. I'm still getting some smoke so hoping it goes away after a day or two.

Anyways, car did good. Made 500whp and 414ft lbs at 28psi. Running good. Just ready for the smoke to go away.

I need those wheels!

It may take some time, depending on how much oil there is. But you should now notice oil all the time, especially on acceleration. Less on decel.

Still getting some smoke likely because of the turbo if you haven't addressed the crankcase vents.
