the SS housings will also make more power than the TS housings. Usually around 50whp more depending on fuel. The SS housings work much better on stroker motors.

It seems that the SS housings bump the turbo a color up.

SS Green will spool like an MHI Red. SS Red will spool like an MHI Black. Etc.
Similar boost pressure but the torque will be much lower on a open housing due to the lack of TS.

My 2.0 with mivec (red) would clear 400 ft lbs at 3800-4000 if I wanted it to where this car isn't coming close at this boost level and looks much later.

A OEM designed TS is going to be alot more fun and make more TQ at much lower rpm then an open housing. The TS Red has plenty of response .

Now , the SS housing will make good power out the top and perform well but it comes with a cost. There was a 1/4 mile 130 + mph SS green awhile back. I still don't think they will go past 8000rpm well, I'm hoping someone will post a clear dynojet graph one day.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't buy this turbo. 4500 rpm is too long to wait for a street car.

Here are a couple old graphs from my MHI HTZ 73 Green. The red line is how it spooled before my car did something weird. The blue is how it's been since. Still okay, but I don't like the idea of having more performance on the table LOL.

Spools is "later" but it makes same torque sooner, and more power...LOL

I'm still stumped on that one. LOL

Nah. The dates on both those logs are after I bought the Green. BoostedTuning tuned the 71 and BainsTuned did the Green. These are definitely Green charts.
I believe my HTA71 hit 20psi and something crazy, like 3200ish. I'll have to look to be sure. It was sick.

If someone came to me with a new HTA71 that had all the options my Green has.. I'd probably have to trade. That turbo was just too damned fun.

sounds about right for the 73htz in my experience.
its fine on the street you just need to learn to drive it as such.
its funny how polarizing these turbine housings are in this community.

My hta71 hits 13 psi at 3200 rpm, 22 psi at 3500 rpm, and 28 psi around 3700 rpm.

I can't wait until 4500 rpm for full boost. Been there with my RX-7 and hated the wait. The wait makes the car feel lazy.

My green is seeing 20psi at 3800RPM and I hate it. necessary evil, though.
I checked my logs. The 71 was seeing 20psi at 3200-3300RPM but I also remembered I had the TME hot side which had the TiAl turbine wheel. That thing spooled instantly. Loved it and never shoulda sold it.

Agreed, but I gave up on trying to figure out what changed. Nobody has had a situation happen, similar to mine. I checked everything I could think of, along with all the suggestions I got. Everything is as it should be. The only thing I haven't done is another compressing check. I keep forgetting to try that. Used to see 20psi at 3600ish, now the 3800. Is what it is, at this point. Im done with it.
😂
