evo 9; weird sound during testing
just reposting here from tune section since this section is more active than the tune sometimes. just message me in-case i cannot double post or something.
cant think of a word that would describe this sound but it resembles a whining noise you would get when cranking an old school beyblade where teeth would be cranking on a gear. Anyways I reflashed my car back to stock, and, during testing, that sound came up when idling. Also, after it cooled down, the car sounded completely fine afterwards. No leaks whatsoever so I figured it was the tune. My original tune had a complete exhaust setup, intercooler, and it's cammed, and now everything went back to stock other than the new Omni 4 bar, grimmspeed ebsc, and the cams. Afr's weren't crazy either sitting at 13.8 +/- 1.0
on the other hand, this could also be the water pump since it hasn't been replaced from factory and the mileage didn't reach 60k yet--which would be a factor since it just started to get warm at around 70 degrees in sf

A better way to describe the sound would be a ratchet moving backward or your parking brake engaging and hitting the notches. Those sounds but toward the passenger side by the engine. Timing off?

I cant seem to recreate that sound. I swear it sounded just like the things ive mentioned it before, and i dont want to drive it around to really bring that sound up again because of my water pump--unless anyone in here has an evo with less that 60k on their first water pump to let me know it should be fine at 14 years old. I took vids of the idle instead if it might be the tune

From the videos it sounds ok. Also appears to be idling smooth.
From what your describing noise wise. It could be a timing belt hydraulic tensioner thats going out. 60k is unusual but parts fail.
But lets not throw parts at it until its diagnosed.
