6466gen 2 issues

i purchased a 6466 gen2 in december2016. My car is not a daily driver. Turbo was installed with guidelines provided by precision.( oil supply line and return in addition to oil filter) Car has only seen 28psi on pump gas.
i switched of the car after driving(turbo timer on) and when i passed the engine bay heard a strange noise. When i removed the suction filter from turbo i felt a lot of axial movement of the compressor wheel.

i have only had this turbo for 6 months.... and it seems that the center bearing is on its way out. I always use amsoil and change my oil religiously even based on time rather than mileage. i immediately check the filter and it was clean.
This turbo does not even have a 2000 miles on it.
googled and found a few people talking abt quality issues at precision. i am totally stressed because i spent a lot on this turbo.

Any help wud be appreciated

Please define "a lot of coaxial play"..

Are there any visible damages to the turbine/comp wheels? ball bearing turbos generally have little play if CHRA has no oil in it. I ran my PTE6466 for 2 years on 38 psi before rebuilding it.

Although, yes you are correct. PTE have been known with quality problems.

The performance of precision 6466 is well known but that is the only problem with precision units that they fail unexpectedly.

Currently using a 6466 - 30 psi daily driven ..

Axial play is usually around 5 thousandths. So you can feel it. Whats a lot?

at 2500 or so rpm I am hearing a sound as if the wheel is touching the housing, sound goes away with rpm increase . when I inspected the compressor wheel it isn't touching the compressor housing but there is a significant up and down movement of shaft with more play on turbine side

Sounds like it needs to get pulled and go to Precision, or a reputable high performance turbo rebuilder in your area. Turbo's should not make grinding noises.

Rebuild it and sell it.

Go with different brand.

Fp or borg warner seems to put alot into there turbos.

So the lifespan of 2000 miles was user error? Or poor worksmanship from pte?

Not really sure, but every aftermarket turbo company has their issues. He hasn't even sent it to precision yet. Maybe they'll warranty it?

I've had good experience with both Precision and FP. When making a new purchase, and when having service done, as well as general tech support.

I agree with sending it out to them. See what they find.
