Built Block recommendations

so I recently blew the block on my evo 8. Since I don’t have a good core I’m SOL on a couple grand.

Can can anyone recommend a good short block for daily and auto cross?

my current setup is S1 cams, 1000cc injectors, CRBD BBK full, 3in TBE, 70mm TB and Ported mani.

Would probably just put a 2.0L in it. Give English Racing a call.

The 4g64 block is a little cheaper and more available. The added displacement would help with autocross as well.

I dont think the 4g64 is more reliable then a 4g63. Anyhow.

You can check out boostin performance. Buschur. Curt brown. Theres a few reputable builders. But if it were my money id hit up buschur if its still the og buschur. Cause hes ritired or retiring.

I would do a 2.3L with your set up. Torque will come into play and way more fun to drive as daily.

its a pretty commonly known thing that the 4g64 has head sealing issues.

It's pretty commonly known that 4G64 has stronger cylinder bores and unshrouds the valves for better breathing. Head sealing issues are easily resolved with o-ringing the block.

Question was directed towards the poster.

What I'm getting at is usually when someone says something is superior/inferior, they give a reason as to why it is so. Not "I think", or "because I say so".

4g64 built correctly run fine. The English Racing 2.4LR build making ~830whp with a 6466 that is sitting in my shop right now (as well as plenty of other 2.4's they've built), and lots of the results TSComp posts prove that. 4g64 head gasket issues are a thing of the past, when guys were experimenting with it and figuring it out.

Yah of course there are things you can do to increase the reliability of the 4g64, but once you start modifying the block/head then your into apples and oranges territory.

Also yah, no replacement for displacement, airflow and all, but that doesn't really have much to do with reliability.

My point of the results is that they also stay together. So it has a lot to do with reliability.

It's not apples/oranges. You need to o-ring the head to make it live. It's that simple.
