Canton Racing Full-Pass Oil Filters

Anyone have some real world experience with these filters?
I recently purchased this setup, and will be definitely using it for initial break in after my engine build is complete. Curious to know if the flow rate can handle high rpm use once break in is complete. 15Gal/min. rating with hot engine oil.

I would have expected somebody to have tried this before...maybe EvoM is fading.
At minimum I’ll put up a review after I try it out.

Review is not quite ready yet. Did have an update, as I built my engine recently with the help of a local race engine and restoration specialist who normally works with domestic V8’s. He uses this exact setup on the V8’s without issue. I’m guessing the larger number of rods and mains would require a little more oil flow than our 4 cylinders, so I anticipate good results.
i will update once beak in is complete.

Thanks for the little update, looking forward to the review!

Engine is up and running with the Canton full-pass filter installed. I took a few pics of my oil pressure gauge once the oil was warmed up. Keep in mind though, the oil is Brad Penn break in oil straight 30 wt, a Kiggly HLA is installed, the balance shafts have been deleted and the GSC race shaft is installed in its place, and an FP turbo oil feed line is in the “after filter” port of the filter adapter, so take these readings with a grain of salt.
Idle speed, appx. 1150 rpm

3k rpm no load

5k rpm no load

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I’m also sporting the English Racing oil pump drive gear, so your results will definitely vary. It is reported to drop oil pressures by around 10%, but the kiggly would likely raise main line pressure slightly, as would the BS delete. Ahh, I’m getting off track. Anyway, lifter tick is currently eliminated, and the engine sounds great, fwiw. I’d move the sensor over to the “after” port to check filter pressure differential if it didn’t seem like such a pain, and inviting oil leaks. I’d say it’s a win. I’ll be able to quickly dissect the filter element for contaminates, the filtration rate is excellent, replacement is easy. Initial cost is high, but once that’s out of the way, a pack of six filters costs around $6-7 apiece. I personally recommend acquiring this system through Jeg’s. Their costs were the lowest I could find, and sipping is free over $100. Just go to Canton’s site first to make sure you are getting the correct filter. I can post the part #’s I used if there’s any interest.

I've liked the idea of having one of these, but the initial cost and ease of picking up a Wix filter vs ordering refills keeps me away. Also... every time I buy something like this, refills quit being made. I have bad timing LOL

Completely understandable. Wix filters are pretty darn good, so unless they’re $15 a piece there’s little incentive to switch. Since I had just built my engine it made sense to me to go ahead. No worries with this setup putting any slag I missed during cleanup through my brand new bearings!
I’m glad I switched to the oversized oil pump drive pulley, btw. Oil pressures are plenty high enough as the engine sits now. My rod bearing clearances are a little fat but there is no evidence of pressure loss, and heavier viscosity oil will be used after break in, so I expect slightly higher pressures than what I have documented so far.

I'm gonna get one. Definitely a good idea.

FYI, the flow rate of a Wix 57092 (Evo oil filter) is 9-11gpm per Wix. So we have plenty of flow with this canton filter.

I really, really like the idea of using Canton filters on brand new engines. I'm totally with you, there. I used regular filters for mine... but I did want to go the Canton route (money was super tight, at that time).

That’s very good information. Thanks for that. My only concern is that WIX and other similar filters have the pressure differential valve built in, so even though the Canton filter flows a higher rate doesn’t necessarily mean it can meet demand at higher revs. The WIX can simply bypass the filter to keep up. The Canton filter hopefully won’t, but could potentially bottle neck oil flow through the element. I guess I need professional flow testing of our engines to be satisfied completely.🤔

For anyone looking at this, I ordered on Amazon and saved about $41 on the filter plus a 6-pack of replacement filter elements.

Here’s a pic to show the install height. It’s a pretty nice piece of kit.
