to log you don't need it but for being able to pull your map off the car or to flash a new map you will need it.
Um, you can read and write from ECUFlash, which is free ware. The flash adapter is for EVOScan. We use ECUFlash to read, write, change tune since it is the tuning software. Evoscan is a logging software.

yeah ecuflash is freeware you still need a flash block to b able to flash using ecuflash otherwise see what error you get if you don’t plug it in.

^^ yep. I mean the adapter is LITERALLY called a "reflash adapter." That's what actually connects to the port which allows you to reflash. This is literally called out on their site

We include a USB cable with each OpenPort, which is all the hardware you'll need unless you have one of the few vehicles that require a separate reflash adapter.
For Mitsubishi, you'll need the adapter for most pre CAN vehicles which include the 5-9 Evo
