I've installed a 9PSI waste gate spring on my set up. The car has an aftermarket manifold, ported head, 6466, 46mm precision WG...etc. So I take it out assuming it will hold steady around 9-10 pounds. The car hits about 15-16 pounds and holds around that. I haven't set up the EBC yet and everything is plumbed correctly. (I plumbed it like the diagram on the left), so i just found it odd that the waste gate couldn't maintain a lower PSI. The vacuum lines going to the boost solenoid are decently long, so could it be a pressure drop from that? When I had a 7psi spring in it, the car would slowly creep to around 10-12psi up top, so its not surprising I suppose.
It hasn't become an issue yet as once the boost solenoid is set up I'm hoping it will hold fine, and its not like i'll be running less than 15psi, just curious why its doing what its doing. I would think the waste gate is plenty large enough to divert the exhaust gasses away.
Sounds fine, especially for a single 46mm gate. The ETS manifolds with dual 38mm gates and a 6466 will make about 7lbs above spring pressure.
Awesome, thanks!
RS200,
It basically does go straight to 15PSI and holds.. Once I set up the EBC i'm sure it will be fine. It was just odd to me that it would boost so much higher than WG pressure.
Run a line from boost source to bottom port on wastegate only, but remove the solenoid and line to top port as picture shows. This should let you know if it’s a boost creep issue.
