Transmission Input Shaft Seal Clarification

I had to take my transmission apart for some work and I resealed it when done. I didn't bother any of the oil seals as they weren't leaking and looked fine but the input shaft seal started leaking very badly after reassembly, bad enough to make the clutch slip in boost and the entire inside of the bellhousing is coated with oil.

So I've pulled the trans and opened it up again to replace the seal since it apparently has to be done from the inside, much to my chagrin. Anyways the FSM says to grease and press it in but I am able to push mine in with fingers alone and can actually press it clear through the other end of the hole and have it pop out. Could this be some sort of manufacturing defect or am I missing something here? There aren't any lips or anything to hold the seal in place and I wouldn't trust it to hold even if the transmission fluid isn't pressurized.

Is it possible that you have the seal for the wrong trans? 6 speed vs 5 speed? Definitely doesn't sound like you've got the right seal if you can push it straight through

Well I just reinstalled my trans and I'm having the same issue. clutch slipping, oil in the bellhousing. Probably going to have to pull it again and disassemble and install this seal. This is the Fing worst.

Weird, did you rebuild yours? It doesn't look like anything else goes there in the FSM.
I really want to have a handle on this before I reinstall because I'm unfortunately starting to get pretty good at pulling the trans.
