Evo 9 Dies While Driving and Won’t Turn Over After

Hey guys,

Maybe someone could help me out cuz I’ve searched everything on here and no one seems to have the fix that I have not already tried. The car starts fine and idles fine once it gets to operating temps.

I’ll drive around anywhere from 10 min - 2 hours and the car ends up bogging out while driving. It sounds like the engine is on but if I press the gas, no power (like fuel or spark is gone) and I have zero reading on my AEM wideband. Once I have the car at a complete stop, it will crank and crank and crank, but wont start. If it does start, the car will run for about 5 seconds and then cut out. I’ve had to wait up to 3 hours for a tow truck one time and the whole time I was waiting, I would try and crank the car over every 20-30 minutes. But as soon as I get home and it was off the tow truck, it would start.

Parts I have changed:
-Cam Sensors
-Crank Sensor
-new timing belt
-new battery
-fuel pump (radium double pumper w/remote wiring)
-recently changed coil packs to COP
-brand new timing belt and serpentine belt

mods:
-SD (OMNI 4 Bar & AEM IAT)
-STM Short Route IC piping
-FP Red BB
-STM COP
-FIC 1220cc injectors
-STM 2-port sealed oil catch can

I'd start putting oem coils back to rule that out first. Then, I'd check the 2 sensors.

Actually, try to borrow another Omni to swap first. They are known to be unreliable.

-Try a new MAP Sensor
-Make sure your rear O2 wires aren’t broken and shorting on the chassis
-Go over all the grounds in the car. Definitely can be a grounding issue.
-Check charging system
-Check set up and wiring from double pumper and/or pumps
-Check timing belt tension
-Have a reputable tuner go over your tune.

You need to narrow down when it’s in a not running and no start condition if it’s not getting fuel or not getting spark. The first two things that stand out to me are either an issue with the double pumper set up, wiring, pump/s, ground issue, or Charging System.

I have changed the map sensor, the 02 sensor, grounds on engine to chassis is good. Double pumper is strong. I can hear the pump running and there’s good fuel pressure even while cranking.

Could the IAC valve near the throttle body be causing the issue? It’s just really hard to duplicate though cuz it hasn’t done it since this weekend. But I have my multimeter to see if my injectors are getting signal from the ecu and to see if I have voltage on my COP.

I would swap back to OEM coils if it is still happening. If it continues with OEM coils, then you can rule the COPs out and keep searching.

Definitely try another Omni 4 bar map sensor, just went through the same problem and that solved it for me.
