JDM Airtek/Outlander Engine Questions For Build

Does anyone know if the airtek engine is basically the same as a evo 8 engine for block and cylinder head, i know the water pump is diffrent. But i was looking at buying a airtek engine to build a head and block for my evo 8. I just wana make sure the block and head core are basically the same for ordering rods /pistons /crank and same with the cylinder head. I cant seem to find a cheap head or block core and the jdm airteks are about $2000 for a complete engine . Is there any down falls to using the airtek engine for a 2.0 Long rod build? Seems cheaper than what people want for cores etc

I believe the block and pistons are same as early evo (1-3). Cams are different.

I thought it would be closer to evo7-8 parts im not sure if its worth buying a airtek jdm engine just for a core, im looking for something close to evo 8 stock cores for. Rebuild, would all evo 8 cams, pistons, rods, crank fit a airtek

I have read my Airtrek has no oil squirters. But I haven't seen inside my block.

Cams and valve spring are Airtrek specific.
Smaller throttle body (slightly)
Different manifold map/boost sensor
Smaller injectors (no resistor box / Subaru sti pink are a drop in with correct scale in rom)
smaller MAF, smaller intake pipe (same design)
same airbox
top mount intercooler (from RVR)
Td04hl-15t turbo (factory 14 psi)
different factory boost solenoid
No SAS but does have egr
Manifold similar to Evo 1-3
Different turbo dump (no O2 sensor)
Different front pipe (same shape but flanges clocked different)
different cat (has 02)

I think for the price it would be a good donor block..but not a great choice if you didn't have everything else ready to swap over

I don't know but I would assume so ... That's the way Mitsubishi do it.. they aren't going to change the block or head design for one model with the same engine.. they have changed many minor things like cams and turbo but if you are swapping everything over I don't see why it wouldn't work.. its same displacement

I have an Airtrek engine in my 8. Built the head and left the block internals alone, replaced everything else with 8MR stuff. Good cheap cores or straight swaps with the accompanying parts. There’s a guy on here making 500+ with a stock Airtrek block

Was the cylinder head identical to the evo 8 besides internals?

The only difference I found was an extra coolant port on the back side of the head (capped it), and the thermostat housing/crossover was a little different. Had to use a 2.4 Outlander water pump but all Evo parts on the head.

Airtrek blocks use different oil squirters, similar to the DSM units.
Not like the Evo which have the sprung banjo bolts.
