Reuse timing belt?
Reuse timing belt?
Hey guy I'm in the process of rebuilding my evo 8. I've only had it for about a year and a half. The car is fully built. long story short lifted the head, at some point it lost oil pressure bearings are trashed. Etc. the build supposedly only had about 2k miles on it. But 2k getting the crap beat out of it, as the new owner im no exception 😁. It has a gates racing timming belt should I reuse it? My gut says he'll no why cheap out. My wallet says meh 🤷♂️ its fine. Whats your thoughts thanks.
Just keep it. Even if the motor was beat the belt shouldn't be affected unless it skipped a tooth or something. I used to be the same and just buy things because I hated the idea of re-using anything "old" but its a gates belt, with 2k miles its like new. Why throw money at something when there is no need? Its not even a piece of mind thing. Inspect it, re-use it and put the money some place its needed.
If it was my build, I'de put a new belt on it. Do you have service records? Was the rest of the timing set also brand new? If not or unknown I would replace all the stuff with new oem. It's going to be a large investment regardless so might as well do it right the first time and have that piece of mind. That goes for pretty much all the other wear items (hoses, gaskets etc). If it lost pressure you're probably in to it for a new oil pump too, but you can inspect that and see for yourself.

Pretty much, just put in a new OEM evo 9 belt. Also, bleed the lifters and check for bearing material
i will retract my last input...
i thought you had all the stuff replaced 2000 miles ago... i missed the "supposedly".
im with the others.. .if you dont know, i would replace all the timing components and the timing belt..
