Help with twin disc
Hello, I am new to Evo ownership and this forum. I recently picked up an 03 VIII from down south in pretty solid condition, except for the fact that it has been sitting pretty much exclusively in a garage for the last 5 years since it was fully built. With that comes the necessity to run through the fluids (diff, t case, brakes, coolant, etc.) The engine runs like a top and the prev owner said it’s got an exedy twin disc in it. I have no real way of proving that his claim of less than 1k miles on the engine and clutch are true except for the fact that the tires are 10 y/o and still in good shape. (I know these need to be replaced anyways). Unfortunately the clutch seems to be slipping when I get into boost hard in 2,3 gear and I checked to see if a fork stopper had backed out due to sitting which it didn’t have one. I fear the worst which is a shot clutch (just due to the cost of it). I was wondering if there was anything I could do (adjust something, change fluid) to “fix” it? The car is still pretty drivable and so I plan to wait a little either way, especially because I need to replace timing belt/wp soon as well. Any advice would be appreciated!
You can pop off the lower inspection cover or pull the clutch fork boot to check what clutch it has.
Check to make sure the pedal is adjusted correctly and that the clutch is fully disengaged when the pedal is all of the way up. Depending on how much power it makes the Exedy twin may not be up to the task. It's a good clutch but not the ultimate option for holding big power.
