80a enough for alt fuse?
80a enough for alt fuse?
So In my stupidity I have installed a new alternator and forgot to put the plastic spacer back on the power wire, this of course resulted in a short and popped the 120a fuse on my fusable link (battery relocation kit). I checked up and the evo 8/9 uses a 100a fuse for alternator however all I have left is an open 80a fuse spot. My question is could I run this lower amp without the fuse popping? I will be ordering a new fuse box link since they aren't that expensive I was just wondering if I can confidently drive the car without worrying about the fuse going and stalling for the time being, and possible damaging the alternator?

i think that should be fine unless youre jumpstarting with a dead battery. I believe the fuses for the alternator and starter is to protect the battery from an internal short or exactly what you did
I will take the car out then and report back for anyone in the same situation.
Update- I’m suddenly noticing something weird. No door chime when the key is in the ignition like it used to. I then checked the engine bay fuse box and found a blown 20a. Replaced it. Chime still doesn’t work. Everything else seems to be functioning just fine. Is it possible the surge could have blown other fuses via the link?
edit- the chime magically works again? Kinda bummed I wouldn’t mind if it somehow failed lol went out for a drive alternator functions good, batt stays fully charged.
