Stock pump goes kaput!!!

I'm at 24700 miles now and I would notice a huge jump on my egt gauge while in 4th gear right at 6500rpms. So I added in lots of fuel with my AFC and it helped a little but my EGT's would still want to go above 900C. I hit 940C a couple of times!!!!! That's crazy hot. You usually don't want to ever go beyond 880C. So I get my Walbro 255lph pump and install it last night. Wow, with the same settings on my AFC I would see an O2 voltage of 1.05!!! Whereas before I was only able to get it to 0.97 and lately it was only running 0.95. So the problem was that my pump was rapidly degrading. The car runs super smooth now and it even idles better from what I can tell. This was worth every penny of the $90 I spent. Thanks Nino. Just to show how much this pump helped me I went from running -7%, to running +7% with the stock pump. Now I have my AFC zereoed out and running an O2 voltage of 0.99.
I recommend getting an upgraded pump to anyone who mods there car. Hell, I would recommend the pump and dynoflash to everyone, even if they do not plan on modding there car. I will be getting the dynoflash really soon.

I'm not really surprised.. My car seems to want to go lean with the stock pump, I suspect mine is not running up to snuff..

Yeah it really sucks that the stock pump can't hold up to par. Al has a couple of cases where they proved the stock pump wasn't supplying enough fuel.

I've disagreed with just about every vendor here on this issue... only to be dismissed as not knowing what I'm talking about because I don't have a "big name shop". Well, it seems the threads are popping up now. I'm glad you were watching! I hope everyone else keeps their eyes open too...

With the Works P1 flash alone, I noticed the same thing Silver Surfer did... He was the first to post on the issue a long time ago... With a fuel gauge on a line from the fuel rail, one can watch the inconsistent fuel pressure on the top end... Esp. after you've got it nice and hot and stand on it for more than just drag strip duty.

Hey all,

I installed my Walbro last weekend. I was a little worried since I had heard of one or two walbros being faulty, but I decided to go for it. I was also a little nervous about attempting the install, but I've decided to try and do all the mods and maintenance on my cars going forward...

With my limited mechanical skiwz I got it done and it wasn't too bad, and when I started the car it definitely idled much better. Car is also more responsive and smoother. I mostly left my SAFC settings alone, but did lean out another 1% or so uptop. I've had to tweak them slightly as the weather changes here in New England. My SAFCII is showing lower peak knock readings as well, not that this is perfect info, but it is reassuring. These are mostly "noise" readings like 20-40 or so after the car is really warm, not real knock (I hope!).

Anyway, if you have more than a few mods, or are running more boost, it's pretty cheap insurance. I just reused the stock "tea bag" filter and it seems fine. Just be careful removing it and you should be all set.

Take care,

FB

Finally got a chance to open her up. All I can say is there is a huge differnce. My EGT's are right at 840 to 860 on the top of 4th. I can tell that no timing is getting pulled either. The car keeps pulling hard as the rpms go up. Now she is running right. I was getting worried for a while on how crappy she was running on the high end. Guess that what really lean conditions will do to you. I have so much more power in the higher rpms than I did before.
