I have a 2.5" catback...

Could I get a 3" dp and HF cat to mount to my existing cat-back?? I know it's not perfect, but I don't want to rebuy cat-back. It's still better than what I have currently right???

boomn you should not neck down from a 3"dp into a 2.5" catback. go with 2.5 all the way. Or 3" all the way.

I'm also contemplating whether or not to get a dp. Because I don't want to get a dp now only to have to change it with an upgraded turbo kit.

Would it really hurt anything to start 3"...then neck down to 2.5" from the cat-back? I figured it would be better, performance wise, then having the stock DP and Cat I have now. Plus, in case I decided on cams or something bigger later, I could upgrade the cat-back to 3" later and be done. Or should I say 2.5"??

Also, won't a downpipe add some volume?? I'd like a little more myself.

I'm not convinced about the power of the downpipe either. I am saving that for one of my last mods. I have yet to see dyno numbers that justify dishing out 300 for a 3inch downpipe. Do some reasearch... I honestly believe the gains are minimal... Al was able to get 289HP with just a catback, MBC and flash. The stock cat and catback are the big corks in the system... If anyone disagrees, please post a dyno graph to prove your case.. I've read about every thread I could find on this subject...

Catback and testpipe are worth about 25-30 HP withthout swapping the downpipe... Don't think you will get much more out of the system... 2-5 Hp is not woth $$$300

I went with a Bushur's 3 inch catback that bolts to the stock pipe... In addition I got the UR test pipe to hook to that... If I ever decide to go 3 inch all the way, I can cut off the flange on the BR... 2.5 is plenty for the stock turbo....

An upgraded downpipe is well worth your money. Your turbo is going to spool up considerably faster and sooner in the power band. I got my downpipe from lancershop for 180, and it works just fine. no need to dish out 300 if you don't want too. Get a used one from a private seller, I've seen guys sell their downpipes on here for 150.

Tell those guys to PM me then! I'm still looking the used route!

Who sells a 2.5" HF cat anyways?

I picked up a used RS-R downpipe which eliminates the Cat at the same time. Only other exhaust mod was a buschur muffler delete. With the addition of the downpipe I noticed a HUGE difference in spool-up, mid-rage, and top end power. I am still running the stock piping after the downpipe and before the muffler delete.

It sounds MEAN too

I will be adding a DSS-Racing 3" Cat-back when I get my car back from the shop.

Your downpipe replaced the cat-con too? Does it mount up the to the piping then? If so, where did you get it??

first off

get the bushur 2.5 in DP or a similar piece, more power/cheaper on your set up than most 3in pipes, because you wont have the in pipe turbulance issues that can come with a 3in pipe and they are much closer to 200 than 300 bones

The correct DP with a high flow cat and cat back can be worth way more than just a cat back/test pipe because of the effective preasure difference created by the free flowing exhaust. DP on a stock car is rumored to be worth 10hp, so one would reason it should be worth at least that probaly more.

Hehas a highflow cat already and set with the right DP these make almost as much power as a test pipe (ask al if you dont believe me) so the DP is the next logical mod for him.
