Shortshifter: new B&M or Kartboy? >>>
i did a search on the site and found decent information about the kartboy and old b&m, but wanted to ask everyone how they feel about the new b&m and kartboy comparison? is the additional adjustablity of the b&m better? also wanted to ask the comparison between the 2 piece bushings under the hood, comparing the metal ones to the kartboy ones?
I have an oz rally, buti have the B&M, the shifter bushings (poly) and the kartboy underhood ones. I can say it really did a number for my shifting in a good way. i love it and it goes right into gear for every gear except first and sometimes reverse (which is always a *****)
the shifter bushings from b&m make it so when you shift hard theres less movement of the shifter assembly and it does what it says. those are worth the $20 or whatever they cost.
the kartboy ones kindof get rid of the notchiness going into gear. for instance, before the kartboys it would feel like it was hitting something else half way going into gear. now it goes in with one push and no play or grinding.
33 for kartboys bushings, 20 for b&m bushings
I cant compare these to metal ones yet or the kartboy shifter. hope this helps

From my understanding, they both reduce the throw by about the same length.
I opted for the Kartboy because I knew there was no cutting involved in the installation unlike the older style B&M's.. However, I think the new style is just like the Kartboy, plug and chug... Anyhow, I'm sure you will not be disappointed by either.

I have the Megan short throw that someone named Speed N Stylez or something like that sells for $35. Works great and reduces the throw by a decent amount. I put some poly bushings in when I installed it and can't complain. I will be adding the under-the-hood bushings here soon.
shifting solutions
I went with the B&M shortie. That combined with a WORKS shiftknob, brass shifter mount bushings and brass shifter cable bushings have given my car a SOLID and direct shift feel. The extra weight of the WORKS knob IMO allows for smoother yet quicker shifts. Oh yeah, my B&M is not adjustable at all and I did NOT have to cut anything to install.

Why would you want to reduce throw on an Evo? It is already a very nice short throw.
Hell, I still use the stock throw in my Eclipse. Tighter gate spacing makes it easier to shift into the wrong gear. And the force required to get into gear increases with a shorter throw. Bleh.

ShapeGSX: the throw is nearly 4" with the stock shifter. My elbow would hit the armrest or the back of my seat during the 1-2 shift. Installing the B&M took care of that. It doesn't seem a lot shorter until you get an aftermarket knob as the Stocker is quite tall itself.
Get the metal bushings from Speed-Hut or Lancershop. People think they are brass but that is just an anti-corrosive covering on them. They definately help with faster shifts.

I believe they are steel but you'd have to ask LancerShop or Speed-Source (sorry, not Speed-Hut) to be sure. They are quite beefy and have a decent weight to them. They are definately not aluminum.

I might get one of those counterweight shift knobs though. Anyone have experience w/ one of these knobs on the stock shifter?
