Best Tranny/diff fluid for NE daily driver?
Best Tranny/diff fluid for NE daily driver?
Hey guys..
I'm torn here. I think I've read every tranny/diff fluid board on this site over the last 4 months. I have 36k on my EVO so far. I switched to redline MT90 for the tranny and redline 75/90 for the center/rear diff at the 15k mark.
This combination has worked OK at first, but I still feel theres room for improvement.
I'm basically looking for the best combo to use for a "stock" car which will never see the track, Never get drag raced, works very well in cold climates, and provides the most balanced protection year round for someone living in the northeast.
I have my eyes set on BG synchroshift for the tranny. I'm a little leary of using the stuff due to it being a GL5, but compatible with GL4 apps as well fluid. But I think I'm gonna go ahead and give it a shot. The corrosion inhibitors in there I would hope actually do their job and I haven't heard of any horror stories yet either, which is a good thing. But it also hasn't been proven for the long run either in the Evo tranny.
Redline 75/90 seemed to work very well in the center and rear diff. I like the fact it was thinner than the stock stuff, which poured out like mud when I changed it a while back. I would use this stuff again. The magnetic plugs were also coated with metal shavings back then. Especially the tranny!
Who knows what I'll encounter this time around.
For all you other non-racers out there who live in colder climates, what would you recommend?
I'm leaning towards going with Redline 75/90 for the rear diff again, Mobil 1 75/90 GL5 for the center diff and BG synchroshift 2 for the tranny.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated,
thanks,
-Rob

I just change the center and rear diff to Redline light shockproof. For rear, I add some LSD additive.
After 1 day of driving, I think this combination is much more better than my previous redline 75/90W.
As of front tranny, I'm going to try a mixture of redline MTL and MT-90.

i use regular motor oil 15w40 in both my evo and eclipse gs-t..(which both are highly modified engine and tranny) they run awesome and shift way smooth.. i have tried all that other crap like red line, mobil 1, and some other. i even tried mixing in LSD additive.. nothing compairs to valvoline 15w40. it WORKS SO AWESOME DURING COLD STARTS TOO..
