ok so now its mid june and the rs is out in the us. now we are starting to get the parts from it (i.e. rear trunk bar). i've searched and read numerous posts from last year about speculation around whether the RS front LSD will work in the EVO 8 or not. does anyone have an answer yet? how much is the LSD from mitsu? will we have problems with the abs if it does fit/work? is the us lsd the same as the jdm one from the non ayc equipped jdm rs'? now for the most pertinent question. would it be that far fetched to think that mitsu would sell and install these lsd's for us(

I talked to my local Mitsu tech about the same thing and he basically said that you'd have to swap almost the entire drive train. He generally knows what he is talking about, so unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume it's not worth it.

I think there was another post about why the front LSD wasn't offered with the car in the first place, something about the EBD/ABS system.. The RS doesn't have ABS..
I don't know physically what what would prevent it since I don't know enough about the RS.. but if the RS is getting a different transmission/transfer case (either the 6 speed or some other revised box) then it makes sense that our Evo8 would need quite a few components swapped.. HOWEVER, the assumption is that its not going to be a bolt-on no matter what. I personally get front right wheelspin on almost every acceleration run I attempt, even at a roll, and can see the benefit of it.. But I would be concerned about breaking something or having unpredictable braking response with ABS in the twisties with it.

Regardless, the word is that Mitsu doesn't even offer the front diff as a separate unit, so you'd have to get the whole transfer case. YOu're better off waiting for the Quaife to come out, provided that isn't vaporware..

So the front diff is in the transfer case , or you saying that to change one we have to change both ?

No, I don't know for a fact that the xfer case is different, just that Mitsubishi requires you to order the whole transfer case if you want the front differential in the standard evo, so I assume the same is true for the RS. The diff is not a part you can order on its own. The front diff is definitely in the transfer case though.
I've heard the same thing. To have a front diff with the ABS(std evo) you would need the Active Center diff. The computer for the ACD works with the computer for the EBD/ABS turning on and off according to the load to the front diff. With out ACD computer, the front diff will play havoc with the ABS system. The Evo MR has an updated ACD computer system which allows the ACD and AYC to work while ABS is activated. At least that's what I remember reading.

Can I ask a stupid question? We dont have traction control on evo's so why would a LSD
front diff play havoc on abs(braking).Besides road racing how many people are on the gas
and brakes at the same time?LSD is just that,Limited slip Diff.Unless you have a Locked
front diff, how would it affect your abs,the rear brakes are also abs and the rear lsd diff
doesn't have a problem,does it?
