My Upgrade plan, $1,500 to work with.

Now that I have some money in my pocket from the sale of my other truck, I figure it's time to start modding the evo. I was thinking of the HKS Racing Suction intake, MR DV valve, Helix 3" DP, Helix 3" Test pipe, and some cat-back exaust. I could wait til my next paycheck and buy an AEM EMS, but there is no where to tune it at here, so I'd have to do it myself or if someone can send a base map for a stock car. Anyhow, should I start freeing up the breathing with an intake/full exaust, or go straight to the EMS and add mods later? Currently I have an EGT gauge and a boost gauge.. that's about it. Which would you do? Any comments would be appreciated, thanks.

I had the hks racing suction kit, and sold it after no hp gain on the dyno. dont wast your money. I would look at a turbo back exhaust as the best first mod. I like the Vishnu exhaust the best. I know it cost more but it is one of the best out their. I had another exhaust that cost less but did not have the fit or finish of the vishnu exhaust. that is my $ 2 cents.,

What air intake would you suggest then? After reading the sticky with videos that have exaust sounds on them, I decided on the full Helix system in 3". But I still don't know if I should go with the AEM or boltons first. I'll probably do the boltons and a flash of some sort.

Buy the buschur stage1 kit! You get your tb exhaust, intake, boost controller and a safc for 1K. Ive been very happy with everything we have gotten from them. And the car went 12.50 @ 108mph with the stage 1 setup.

Yes a 3" exhaust is a good first mod but if you got money to burn
I'd get:
3" turbo back exhaust (your choice) I have the ulitmate racing w/high flow cat
ECU (stand-alone/piggyback/flash)
warblo fuel pump
boost controler (man. or elec.) it does the same thing (only if you do the fuel pump)
intake w/MAF pipe (only if you do the fuel pump) it will run lean otherwise
cams/ cam gears (only if you run the 272's or anything not HKS)
injectors 660 (denso)
steel cutch lines (personally a must)
ss brake lines (better fluids a must)
retainers/springs ti.
port/polish head
ARP head studs
hks head gasket
exedy double plated clutch
You know what I think I when a little to far hahaha

I'd leave the stock intake alone. too many problems, most cars laying down some good power still use the stock box.

Helix DP $270 I love it, great DP
Cat-Back of your choice you can get one around $500.00 they all do the same thing.
engine mgt, I think I'm going with XEDE, but personal pref. $900.00

under $1700 and the car should be running like a champ

IMO free up the exhaust and plug in a mgt unit. everything else is preference. Then again, it depends on your purpose for the car; you may want to start with a clutch

Forget about the intake and the BOV. Get yourself any full 3" exhaust and an XEDE. I was in the same situation as you are where I had no one around who could tune my car. The tuning maps off the Vishnu site are really good.

Then save up your money for some cams and cam gears.

For the money you want to spend... K&N drop in $65, Megan Racing Turbo back ($505 shipped Ebay store), AMS intercooler $695, and a mail in Dynoflash $199.99. More than enough to roast your clutch.

Or, one of the other million combinations out there...
